A blog about travel, good books, and living life as an experiment.

My First Blog Post. Welcome to TravelsofaPhD!

Welcome to my first blog post on TravelsofaPhD!

My first blog post felt like a long time coming.

While it took me long time to get over the fears and doubts I had about creating a website, writing my first blog post felt even longer.

I have found myself procrastinating so much.

But I am SO glad I’ve finally written my first post.

So again, welcome to my first blog post!

Whomever you are, wherever in the world you’re joining from, thank you for reading this. I am so happy and grateful for you joining me on this journey!

Most of what I post on this blog will boil down to two things: traveling and completing your PhD.

One of those things definitely sounds like a lot more fun than the other…completing your PhD, right?

HA!

But in all seriousness, my aim is to show you all that you can live a life of travel while competing your PhD. Life doesn’t have to stop just because you are writing a dissertation.

Another topic I’ll post a lot about is this idea of experimenting with life.

For me, this means trying a bunch of things I might enjoy and seeing what sticks and feels right. While I’ll share my general insight and thoughts around this topic, a lot of what I write about in this area will be through the books I’m reading.

Of course, I’m going to take you all on my journeys around the world. In so doing, I also hope to give you all practical travel tips and advice. From neighborhood and city guides to the best coffee shops in a particular city, I hope to give you valuable information that you can then use in your own travels.

Plus, I’ll just be writing about everyday life as much as possible.

Those days where I need to write for school and can’t stand to look at the computer, The ones where I don’t want to read a single page more. If you’re a PhD student or in grad school, you know what I’m talking about…

In addition, I’ll be posting about random topics, because face it: I won’t always be traveling, and not every second will be spent on my dissertation.

I’m going to bring you all with me so you can see my life from my perspective. As therapeutic as this, I again want to share the lessons I have learned and those I continue to learn.

If you can’t already tell, I’m going to be honest and upfront with you about what’s going on and how I’m feeling about things going on in my life. Central to this are the actions I am taking to manage the obstacles and challenges I face.

The struggles, the triumphs, the “bleh”—all of it will be here. I hope that as you get to know me, you’ll reach out with things you might be struggling with, especially as it relates to completing PhD work or getting more travel in your life.

Why am I dedicated an entire blog to this?

It’s because a lot of these things just don’t get spoken or written about enough.

It seems like all you see on the internet and social media are the good things. Those YouTubers and Instagrammers making a killing, who just blew up (seemingly out of nowhere), and have this amazing life!

Speaking from my own experience, it can be tough seeing that and wondering why I’m not in the same position.

But anyways, enough about what I’m going to write about in future blog posts, let’s get on with the show!

In the next post, I’ll share a little bit more about me and where I’m currently at as far as my transition to full-time travel and full-time dissertation writing.

That’s all for now.

Welcome, again to my first blog post!

Till Next Time, Travel Friends!
