Amid the bustling city that is Buenos Aires sits the uniquely charming and vibrant neighborhood of Villa Crespo.

Despite being overlooked by many travelers, the lovely Villa Crespo holds a special place in my heart and is my personal favorite neighborhood in all of Buenos Aires.

While the selfish traveler in me would like to prevent Villa Crespo from turning into a tourist hotspot, there is so much the neighborhood has to offer visitors. It would be completely unfair of me to not share all the beauty I have discovered in one of Buenos Aires’ most well-kept secrets.

In this blog post, I will showcase the unique allure of Villa Crespo and share the top 6 reasons why the neighborhood deserves to make it on your Buenos Aires itinerary, as well as the top 5 things to do while you’re there. From the inviting Mercat Villa Crespo and captivating street art to the lively community spirit and diverse culinary scene, Villa Crespo promises an unforgettable adventure.

Where is Villa Crespo?

Villa Crespo (also known as Comuna 15) borders Caballito to the south and the popular Palermo Soho to the east. It is located in the northwest area of the city of Buenos Aires.

To some, the neighborhood seems far away from the main attractions of Buenos Aires. It is true that it is not as close to many of Buenos Aires’ attractions or well-known sites like Recoleta Cemetery and Teatro Colon.

However, considering how expansive and safe the public transportation system is in Buenos Aires, visiting Villa Crespo is generally no longer than a 25-30 bus or Subte (train) ride. Additionally, part of the neighborhood’s charm lies in the fact that it’s located slightly outside of the main zones of Buenos Aires.

For anyone looking for a culturally immersive, safe, lively and entertaining visit to Buenos Aires, I highly recommend staying in Villa Crespo.

Top 5 Things to Do in Villa Crespo

Villa Crespo is not as big nor as populous as Recoleta and the various sub-neighborhoods that make up Palermo. But it is one of Buenos Aires’ largest neighborhoods, making it no surprise that there is so much to do in the neighborhood.

While the list below is by no means exhaustive, I have included the top things you should consider doing on your next visit to Villa Crespo.

Mercat Villa Crespo
  1. Indulge at Mercat Villa Crespo
    • No visit to the best neighborhood in Buenos Aires would be complete without indulging in the culinary haven that is Mercat Villa Crespo. From the Asian street-food stalls to the exceptionally unique Kurtoskalac stall, a visit to Mercat Villa Crespo is sure to take you on a globe-trotting culinary journey. Among the many options is, of course, traditional Argentine delicacies such as empanadas al horno (baked) and succulent grilled steaks. There’s more than food at Mercat Villa Crespo: check their Instagram for events ranging from pop-up shops to fire shows. On one of my visits to the market, I was lucky enough to catch one of the last tickets for a wine festival of over 70 wineries throughout Argentina. For 5.000 ARS, myself and other festival-goers could meander through the three floors of Mercat Villa Crespo, trying unlimited wines! Even on the most ordinary days, though, Villa Crespo’s top attraction is a true paradise of gastronomy, one that will leave you counting the days until you return.
