In this post, I’ll be writing about my stay at the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra located in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.
I’ll be giving an honest review of the Wyndham Alltra’s restaurants, amenities, and top things to do.
With that said, let’s jump right in!
Number One Amenity at the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra: The Pool!
By far, the number one amenity at the resort is the main pool. Aside from the pool simply being massive, it was perfectly positioned to the beach and the main lobby.
A less than 5-minute walk and you could go for a swim in the sea. A 30 second walk in the other direction and you were right in the main lobby.
Not bad!
The main pool also had a really cool bridge that you could hang out under to escape the sun. Walking on the actual bridge led you to the pool bar which was massive in its own right.
What I also loved about the main pool at the Playa Del Carmen Wyndham Alltra was how deep it is. I’ve been to quite a few other resort pools that aren’t deeper than 4 feet, which makes it difficult to get my cannon-ball on after a few drinks!
The platform at the front of the pool was also really cool. This is great for folks just wanting to lay out while still being in the pool.
Throughout the entirety of my last day, I found myself taking breaks between sitting in this area and going for swims toward the other side of the pool.
This platform area is where all the entertainment employees could be found getting the party going (more on this below).
Entertainment at the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra
Shoutout to Manuel, Cristian, and Emiliano! These are the stars of the Wyndham Alltra Entertainment team! The three of them put so much energy into making sure guests had a good time.
From the “Save the Mermaid” game to “Sexy Water Aerobics”, it felt like there was always a show, activity, or game going on. Without a doubt, the quality of entertainment and number of things going on sets the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra apart from other resorts.
One of my favorite activities was yoga in the morning.
It couldn’t get any more picturesque and peaceful than it did on that gazebo at 8:30 am. Roger was an incredible instructor that challenged us while also keeping it so light and peaceful.
It’s honestly hard to believe I would’ve enjoyed the trip this much if it wasn’t for the entertainment team.
The Wyndham Alltra Restaurants
My mouth is watering just thinking about the food at the Wyndham Alltra restaurants.
The buffet-style, Ventanas, was amazing and has every food you can think of. There’s a fruit bar with over 15 different types of fruits. Not to mention the raw bar that had all types of sashimi. I can’t forget, the Mexican station that had enchiladas, tortillas, huevos rancheros, tacos and so much more.
What I noticed firsthand, though, outside of the seemingly endless options, was the quality of the food. Typically at all-inclusive resorts, quality is sacrificed for quantity, but definitely not at the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra.
I mean, I could go on and on about the burst of flavor in those tomatoes filled with I-don’t-even-know-what!
And dare I not mention the fruit juice station toward the end of the restaurant! Grapefruit, orange and pineapple, apple and kiwi; endless variations freshly squeezed right in front of you!
The Wyndham Alltra’s Best Restaurant: Zarape
Now, on to one of the main restaurants. The same restaurant that I have had (literal) dreams about since returning: Zarape.
It’s fitting that Zarape is the Wyndham Alltra’s highly rated restaurant. We were in Mexico after all!
The way they prepared their plates and presented them was simply fabulous. And the flavors of the food…Yum!
The mole sauce in particular was out of this world!
I heard of mole previously but had never tried it.
It was so complex: the spice, tanginess, sweetness, and subtle but rich chocolate flavor was the perfect companion to those already-amazing enchiladas.
The best thing about this meal? It was a surprise! I asked the waiter to surprise me and he surely did not fail!
Location of the Resort
Location. Location. Location.
It’s true what they say.
I couldn’t think of a better location for this hotel to be in. It was no more than a minute’s walk to La Quinta Avenida and was right along the beautiful waters of Playa del Carmen.
For anyone familiar with Playa del Carmen, the Wyndham Alltra is on the Southside of the city, otherwise known as the party side.
And for good reason! Well-known tourist clubs like La Vaquita and Cocobongo were a short two minute walk from the resort, as well as the semi-chic Mandala.
The Wyndham Alltra was also not too far from the Ado bus station, which is how we arrived in Playa del Carmen from Cancun. It took about 15 minutes for us to walk there, passing all of the amazingness that is La Quinta Avenida!
Would I go back to the Wyndham Alltra?
I absolutely would go back to the Wyndham Alltra.
It wasn’t perfect…
They were doing construction on the hotel’s private beach. The pool also closed at 8:30pm.
Nevertheless, the service and food are pretty tough to beat. As well, the whole stay at the resort, from initial booking to check-out, was quite smooth and headache-free.
What I valued most, however, was the price!
Our group shared a two-bedroom room that came out to just under $1600 USD per night. That means we paid slightly less than $100 USD per night.
Did I mention it was an all-inclusive resort?!
For this, along with everything else I’ve mentioned, I will likely be seeing the Playa del Carmen Wyndham Alltra in my future travel plans!
Will I perhaps see you there?
